StatiCAD Program Compliance with TBDY2018

TBDY2018 Section 2

The program automatically calculates Design Spectral Acceleration Coefficients using Map Spectral Acceleration Coefficients and Local Soil Effect Coefficients, and automatically generates the Horizontal Elastic Design Spectrum.

Article 2.3.2-2.3.4.2: SS, S1, and local soil class are entered by the user. SS and S1 are earthquake coefficients dependent on the building location and are obtained from the AFAD Turkey Earthquake Hazard Maps website. The local soil class is obtained from the site-specific soil investigation report. The program performs all calculations for this section automatically, and calculated values are shown in the earthquake forces table (calculation report).

Article 2.3.4.2: Horizontal elastic design displacement spectrum is not calculated as it is not used in the Section 4 strength-based calculation algorithm.

Article 2.3.5: Vertical Elastic Design Spectrum calculation is not performed in the current version. Vertical earthquake calculation using the vertical elastic design spectrum is required per Article 4.4.3.1 for: (a) buildings with beams whose horizontal projection of spans is 20m or more, (b) buildings with cantilevers whose horizontal projection is 5m or more, (c) buildings with columns resting on beams, (d) buildings with columns inclined from vertical. If any of these conditions exist, StatiCAD does not perform these checks automatically, but the structural model can be exported to SAP2000 for vertical direction response spectrum analysis. The program performs vertical earthquake calculation within the scope of Article 4.4.3.2.

Article 2.4: Site-specific ground behavior analysis results (Fs and F1 values) can be entered as input by selecting the "Special" local soil class option.

Article 2.5: Time domain earthquake ground motion parameters are not used in the current version as new building design uses the strength-based design method.

TBDY2018 Section 3

Article 3.1.1 - Building Usage Classes: The building importance coefficient is entered in the TBDY2018 tab of project general settings. The program selects the Building Usage Class (BKS) according to Table 3.1 based on the given value.

Article 3.2 - Earthquake Design Classes: The program automatically selects the Earthquake Design Class (DTS) based on the calculated Sds and BKS.

Article 3.3.1 - Building Base and Building Height: The rigid basement parameters are given in the project general settings, and BYS is calculated according to Table 3.3. For determining whether a rigid basement exists in your project, two criteria apply: (a) rigid basement shear walls must surround the building on all sides or at least three sides, (b) the ratio of natural vibration period calculated for the entire building including basement floors to the period calculated without basement masses must be less than 1.1. The program does not automatically check conditions (a) and (b).

Article 3.3.2 - Building Height Classes: The program automatically calculates the Building Height Class and checks whether BYS requirements are met. If the building height exceeds the allowed limit, a warning is given.
