Checking for Errors in Analysis

Since timber building systems have a large number of elements, errors may occur in finite element analysis when element connections are not made properly.

The main points for understanding whether errors have occurred are listed below:

1- If the building periods show a NAN (Not Assigned Number) error during analysis with the "Perform modal analysis with finite element stiffness matrix" option, or if the analysis is interrupted, the system finite element model needs to be corrected.

2- In some cases, when the analysis is completed using the 4.26 method or empirical method for the building dominant vibration period, or with the "Perform modal analysis with finite element stiffness matrix" option disabled (modal analysis is performed with the shear frame method), it should be checked in the earthquake forces report that the building TPX and TPY periods are reasonable numbers and do not contain values like 9.99999. If they do, the system model should be checked and corrected.

3- When obtaining the finite element results sub-section reports such as column bottom end cross-sectional effects or shear wall/wall bottom end cross-sectional effects, it should be checked whether the values are infinite (9.999999 value in the boxes).

4- After analysis, press the NVM button on the right side of the main screen. In the displacement tab of the dialog box that appears, check the "Show displacements" checkbox and examine uz displacements under G loads, ux displacements under EX1 loading, and uy displacements under EY1 loading. If there is an unconnected element with excessive displacement, select "Show bar element names" in the model tab to identify the name of the unconnected element, then select the relevant element in the 2D screen (using the Find command if necessary) and correct its connection status with other elements.
