Connection Details in Timber Buildings
In StatiCAD, timber building calculations can be performed in accordance with the 2018 Earthquake Code and the Timber Building Design, Calculation and Construction Principles (ABTHYE) published in the Official Gazette No. 32499 dated 24.03.2024.
In the program, timber shear walls (Light Frame Wall Systems) are entered with options for cladding on one or both sides. Edge columns, intermediate columns, top headers, bottom headers, and intermediate bands are created. Timber floors are also entered as floor sheathing, floor joists, and horizontal intermediate band beams. Independent timber beams and timber columns are entered. Wind and snow loads are defined.
During analysis, the program automatically defines the 87 load combinations required for timber buildings by the code, considering vertical loads, earthquake loads, and snow loads. It automatically calculates earthquake loads and element internal forces. For timber shear wall elements, it automatically calculates the shear capacity according to TBDY2018 and reports the adequacy status. Timber element calculations are also performed in accordance with the ABTHYE Strength Design section, including: Tensile Stress Check Parallel to Grain, Bending Limit State Check, Lateral Buckling Limit State, Compressive Stress Check Parallel to Grain, Shear Stress Check Parallel to Grain, Rolling Shear Stress Check, Torsional Moment Effect, Combined Effects (Bending Moment and Axial Forces), Compressive Stress Check Perpendicular to Grain, taking into account moisture and size factors. Timber elements can be defined within timber structural systems as well as in other structural systems (masonry or reinforced concrete). Additionally, beam cross-section and deflection checks can be performed according to TS647 standards.
However, timber element connection calculations (nailed, stapled, screwed, bolted, doweled, perforated metal plate, split ring and shear plate, toothed plate connections) are not available in the current version. Work on this topic has begun, and until it is completed, the following paid and free connection calculation software can be used:
