Improving Walls with Insufficient Shear Strength

If walls with insufficient shear strength (shown in purple on the screen) are found after analysis, the amount of walls in the insufficient direction of the building can be increased, wall thicknesses in the insufficient direction can be increased, vertical tie columns can be added inside the insufficient walls, or the solution can be changed to reinforced wall design.

When vertical tie columns are added inside or at the ends of insufficient walls, the following option must be selected in the project settings for the program to take them into account.

After adding vertical tie columns inside/at the ends of insufficient walls, an analysis is performed to check whether the insufficiency has been resolved. If the insufficiency persists, the dimensions of the vertical tie columns are increased, or new vertical tie columns can be added inside the same wall.
