Excavation
EXCAVATION
In order to perform layout on the plot, a site plan prepared according to the zoning status is first obtained from the municipality.
Based on the measurements given in this plan, a surveying engineer determines one corner of the structure and the building line. The other corner points of the building are determined from the identified corner point using a tape measure. Stakes are driven at the building corners.
The foundation pit is excavated using excavation machinery.
DETERMINING EXCAVATION DEPTH
Buildings are generally given elevation references from the widest road frontage, from the sidewalk (curb stone top level). If the sidewalk has not yet been constructed, the sidewalk level is accepted as 0.18 m above the road level. If the road has not yet been constructed, upon request for elevation on roads, the curb top level is determined by the municipality within 20 days at the latest according to the prepared project.
When assigning elevation to buildings, the highest sidewalk level at the midpoint line of the road frontage from which the parcel takes its elevation is accepted as the reference point.
*** If there is a 3.50 m or greater elevation difference between the corner elevations of the road frontage from which the parcel takes its elevation, the area where the building will sit is terraced, and the curb stone top level at the midpoint of each terrace is accepted as ±0.00 for elevation determination. However, the height of each terrace from the lowest curb stone at its own level must not exceed 1.75 m.
EXCAVATION DEPTH = (Floor Height + Foundation Lintel Height) - (Sidewalk Elevation + Ground Floor Elevation)
MEASURING THE DEPTH OF THE FOUNDATION PIT
Elevation transfer is performed to measure the depth of the foundation pit.
First, the elevation is transferred from the road to a stake using a water level hose or a surveying level. In elevation transfer with a water level hose, a transparent hose filled with water and free of air bubbles is used - the water level at the road end is equalized with the water level at the stake end. Thus, the elevation transfer is accomplished. Elevation can be transferred from the initial stake to other stakes or to walls, trees, etc. in the same manner.
