Damaged Masonry Building Analysis with StatiCAD

Damaged Masonry Building Analysis has been added to the program with StatiCAD Ultimate version 6.2.0.0.

TBDY2018 does not provide details regarding the performance analysis and strengthening of damaged masonry structures.

TBDY2018 Article "15.1.7 - After an earthquake that causes damage to a building, the principles given in this Section shall be applied for the strengthening of the damaged building and subsequently for determining the earthquake performance of the strengthened building. The civil engineer responsible for the project shall decide to what extent the strength and stiffness of the existing elements shall be taken into account in the strengthening of the damaged building."

The stiffness and strength of damaged structural elements decrease. The decrease in stiffness causes the element to carry less seismic load in a new earthquake, increases the building period, causes undamaged elements to carry more seismic load, and results in the damaged structural element having less resistance.

In order to examine the effect of damage on the building, a study was conducted between the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and Civil Engineering Faculty members of Middle East Technical University, and a draft text was prepared for the revision of the Regulation on Determination of Risky Structures (RYTEİE). The related draft text is NOT published in the Official Gazette and is therefore not in effect. However, since it can be guiding in the examination of damaged buildings in earthquakes that occur in our country, the calculation principles have been interpreted and implemented in the StatiCAD program. Although the related calculation principles do not have official validity (and obligation to apply) since they have not been published in the Official Gazette, we believe they can be useful for reasonably considering the decreases in stiffness and strength in damaged buildings.
