BRICK WALL CONSTRUCTION

BRICK WALL CONSTRUCTION

1) Bricks shall be wetted when building walls.

2) When laying the first course, the floor and column sides must be cleaned and wetted.

3) Brick wall courses must be at the same height and level at window levels.

4) The smooth surfaces of the brick should face outward and toward the larger volume.

5) All bricks must have half-brick bond (staggered joints).

6) At wall ends and corners, if factory-made half bricks are not available, cut halves shall be used.

7) Where the wall meets the column, joints must be filled very well.

8) The number of brick courses and horizontal joint thickness shall be adjusted according to the height of the area to be walled. As much as possible, the last brick course should be a full brick.

9) At the junction of the last brick with the beam or ceiling, the brick shall be compressed by wedging, and the last joint shall be thoroughly filled with mortar.

10) Brick joints shall be equally spaced and fully filled with mortar.

11) Completed walls shall be kept moist by sprinkling water for 8 hours after completion to prevent the mortar from burning.

12) When viewed from the wall surface, bricks shall be as flush and plumb as possible.

13) Walls shall be aligned and plumb with respect to the exterior facade.

14) Brick wedges shall be driven on top of the last courses at door and window edges and corners.

15) Pre-prepared reinforced concrete lintel elements shall be placed so as to bear equally on the walls on both sides, taking into account the door heights in the project.

16) 250-dose cement mortar shall be used for walls.

17) The consistency of the mortar shall be adjusted according to weather conditions.

18) When continuing unfinished walls, the old wall shall be wetted before continuing the brickwork.

19) When building walls, a wide board shall be leaned against the first course; mortar falling on it shall be immediately collected and reused.

20) Mortar shall not be mixed on the floor slab for wall construction, and no mortar residue shall be left behind.

21) Bricks with a broken or chipped face at corners or in the middle shall be used with the broken side facing inward, and the gap from the break shall be filled with mortar.

22) When building a half-brick wall, upon reaching 1.5 m height, a minimum of 6 hours must be waited before continuing the wall construction.
